So i just picked up a 97 aspire from a local member on here, car was off the road for 3yrs i got it running put close to 100 miles on it over a 4 day period car ran great! Pulled into driveway turned it off went out that night to runto the store i hit the key and the car turned over with no conpression and had a loud ticking/ hitting sound found out the valve is stuck down and i think its hitting the piston and got bent ... But I was under the impression the aspire engines were non interference engines tho so I'm hoping to not have a busted piston (lucklie the car wasnt running when that happened) so my question is are the aspire (engines its a '97) non interference? And should i expect the worst when i pull the head? http://files.jcink.net/uploads/aspire/ohnoes.gif. Thanks

A "non interference engine" means that when the timing belt breaks, the pistons will not crash into the valves. If you really did drop a valve and it fell even partway into the cylinder - that is a serious issue

ooh dear...This is nightmare 101. I'm with jbibb1 on all points. Yikes! Hope it's nothing
too serious bud. Better start pulling that head cover off and then the head itself.
The longer you leave that sitting there, the worse it will get. If it's bent then you definitely
have dramas. Fingers crossed it's not that bad... Time will tell on this occasion.

Outstanding! Just spray it with some wd40 and check for any rust or rough spots
That could make it stick in the cylinder wall.

I got looking and all the intake valves are sticking due to old nasty oil that smells burnt i think the car was overheated at some point because it has a new head , since idk if the valves are compromised i ordered all 4 brand new. then gonna clean up the entire head and hope i can remember how it goes back together haha
